The Rabid Raccoons: Unmasking the Rot at West Virginia Academy

West Virginia Academy (WVA) – a name once synonymous with academic excellence and community spirit – now brings to mind a far different image: that of rabid raccoons tearing through the fabric of education. As a deeply concerned member of our community, I can no longer stay silent about the troubling issues plaguing this once-revered institution.

Let’s not mince words: WVA is a mess, with its leadership behaving like rabid raccoons, leaving chaos in their wake. The most recent Board meeting was a disaster, marked by the unjust removal of dedicated parents, employees, and a mass exodus of students. Now, there’s a “special meeting” scheduled this evening to oust the only remaining Board member whose commitment to the school remained steadfast despite the incompetence of John, Heidi, and Holly. This paints a grim picture of an institution in turmoil.

I urge all of you to attend this meeting to gain a firsthand understanding of the state of leadership at WVA. Despite his diminutive and flabby stature, John Treu chooses to bully and intimidate those he dislikes or perceives as threats to his authority. It’s time to confront this behavior and demand accountability from those in power.

But the decay goes beyond surface-level disorder. It’s a rot of accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct. John Treu, Heidi Treu, and Holly Honeycutt – entrusted with upholding WVA’s integrity – have instead orchestrated its downfall. Their mismanagement, deceptive practices, and callous disregard for the welfare of students and staff have eroded the very bedrock of trust upon which WVA was built.

Disabling comments on social media platforms and stifling parental voices isn’t just censorship; it’s a brazen attempt to muzzle dissent and bury the truth. Yet, let me be unequivocal: the outcry of concerned parents, students, and staff demanding accountability cannot be silenced. What’s even more disturbing, amidst this climate of suppression, is the recent revelation (with legal repercussions pending) that a member of the WVA administrative staff (we know who you are btw) has been employing an anonymous text app to issue threats to former families, employees, and their spouses. This egregious behavior is not only a career killer but further underscores the toxic environment permeating WVA and underscores the urgent need for accountability to safeguard everyone in our community.

The touted expansion plans by Treu are nothing but a smokescreen, diverting attention from the turmoil within. Promises of new facilities for older students in the Cheat Lake area fall flat when current facilities languish in disrepair, and the needs of existing students are disregarded.

Now, let’s scrutinize the purported “vision” behind these expansion plans. Walking to school through a housing development? Let’s not indulge in this fairy tale; instead, let’s address critical questions. How many current students actually reside in the Falling Water neighborhood? Has the Falling Water HOA even granted approval for bus routes through their area? And does WVA genuinely possess the necessary permissions and funding to meet the stringent requirements set by MUB and DOH for constructing a school in this neighborhood? At present, they are either unwilling or unable to fulfill their financial obligations to existing vendors and contract services. In light of this, how can they be relied upon to undertake such a substantial financial commitment?

It’s abundantly clear that this isn’t about genuinely enhancing convenience for families; it’s a ruse to deflect attention from the real issues and inflate John Treu’s ego. The focus should be squarely on rectifying the pressing concerns within WVA, not on fanciful plans devoid of feasibility and transparency.

The cultural center, touted as a bastion of arts and technology, is a mere facade. Behind the curtain lies a leadership team more preoccupied with self-preservation than nurturing the talents of our youth.

The time for sugarcoating is over. It’s time to call a spade a spade and hold the rabid raccoons of WVA accountable for their actions. Our community deserves better, our children deserve better. It’s imperative to reclaim the integrity of West Virginia Academy before irreversible harm is done. John, Heidi, and Holly must resign immediately!

And to those who still harbor doubts about the gravity of the situation, let me provide some clarity. Your emails, inadvertently made public due to Holly Honeycutt’s oversight, have unveiled a pattern of misinformation perpetuated by the school administration. If you’re concerned about your privacy, I urge you to file a formal complaint – you have every right to do so. However, ignoring the issues raised in these emails only exacerbates the problems afflicting our school.

What will it take for you to pay attention? The exodus of multiple students and families? The rampant staff turnover? The alleged misconduct involving Honeycutt and a former substitute PE teacher? The persistent dissemination of misinformation? These are not mere inconveniences but symptoms of a systemic leadership failure.

Moreover, testimonials from former employees paint a damning picture of the toxic work environment fostered by the Treus. Verbal and emotional abuse, lack of transparency, and arbitrary decision-making have become the norm under their tenure.

It’s time for decisive action. The Treus and their allies must be held accountable for their actions. We can no longer afford to turn a blind eye. The future of our school, and most importantly, the safety and well-being of our children, hinge on it. I’ll say it louder: John, Heidi, and Holly need to resign immediately!

Sincerely,

Tony “The Exterminator”

Welcome to our platform, a space dedicated to fostering transparency, excellence, and accountability at West Virginia’s pioneering charter school, West Virginia Academy. As a collective of current and former parents and staff, we wholeheartedly support the principle of school choice. We believe in the transformative power of education and the unique opportunities that charter schools can offer, and we hope that West Virginia Academy can eventually realize this potential.

However, we find ourselves at a crossroads due to the poor leadership of the school’s current administration: John Treu, Heidi Treu, and Holly Honeycutt. This blog serves as a critical lens, scrutinizing decisions and policies that, in our view, deviate from the school’s core mission of providing exceptional education to our children. We firmly believe that both current and prospective families deserve a candid account of the issues that exist at the school, so they can make informed decisions about their children.

That said, our goal is not merely to criticize, but to advocate for meaningful reform, and to support the school in making the changes that are so desperately needed. Through constructive feedback and open dialogue, we hope to help the school develop an administrative framework that embodies transparency, competence, and a profound commitment to the health and welfare of its students.

Our critique is driven by a firm belief in what West Virginia Academy could and should be. We are dedicated to ensuring that the foundation upon which our state’s first charter school is built is as strong and forward-looking as possible. We invite all stakeholders—administrators, teachers, parents, and the wider community—to join us in this vital conversation. Together, we can envision and work toward a future where the school embodies the ideals of transparency, excellence, and respect for all its members.

Let’s collaborate to create an educational environment that our children deserve. Your insights, experiences, and voices are crucial to this journey. Thank you for joining us in making West Virginia Academy the best it can be.
